Rules and Conditions
Eligibility
• You are between the ages of 18 and 28 and registered as a full-time
student at a post-secondary school, not the last year of study
at the moment of application for the Summer Work Travel program.
• Your oral and writing English proficiency level is not lower
than intermediate.
• You have an international passport, which is valid at least
6 month after entry into the U.S.
• You are not suffering from any health or other condition that
would create a risk for you while abroad.
• You will attend an in-person interview and complete an English
language screening and will submit all requested documents, including
passport to USUF partner.
• You will attend any scheduled orientation session in your home
country and in the U.S.
• You are responsible for reading and carefully considering all
the information you will receive with your USUF Summer Work Travel
Brochure.
• You understand that you must pay a separate SEVIS fee.
• You understand that your DS-2019 form and the SEVIS payment
receipt (I-797) must be presented to a consular official during
the visa application process.
• You will register with SEVIS through the arrival check-in section
of this website within 5 days of your arrival to the U.S. in order
to report your arrival and current residential address and do
a monthly check-in through the monthly check-in section of this
website.
• You will inform USUF of any changes in your location of residence
within 10 days of relocation through the monthly check-in section
of this website.
Employment
• You may not work as a camp counselor, nanny, au pair, housekeeper
or helper in a private home, in a hospital or in the medical field,
work with airlines, or the adult entertainment industry through
the Summer Work Travel Program.
• You may not work at a place that requires you to invest your
own money for the purpose of door-to-door sales.
• You will contact your host company prior to arrival; notify
them in advance about your arrival and departure dates.
• You must begin work at your approved host company no more than
7 days after your arrival.
• You cannot leave your host company without USUF approval.
• You must follow your host company's rules and policies.
• You may not be allowed to continue the program if you break
the contract between you, USUF, and your host company.
• If you are fired from your job for any specific reason concerning
your attitude or actions, you will not be allowed to continue
your program and must return to your home country immediately
at your own expense.
• You must contact USUF immediately if you have problems at your
job that may lead to you being fired or breaking your agreement.
Insurance
• You understand that you must have appropriate medical and travel
insurance while you participate in the Work/Travel Program and
agree to accept the insurance plan provided by USUF.
• Your insurance policy covers only the period of time listed
on your DS-2019 and you are responsible for extending your insurance
if you wish to travel for up to 30 days after the period on your
DS-2019 form.
• Your medical insurance does not cover any pre-existing conditions.
Program Rules
• You agree to cooperate with USUF staff and follow any instructions
they may give you.
• You agree to obey all U.S. federal, state, and local laws. If
you break the law, USUF can not help you and you will be terminated
from your program.
• USUF sends your visa updates and other important messages through
the email address you submitted on your application. You agree
to check your emails at least once a week.
• You agree that if you provide information or documents either
to USUF, their partner, or the U.S. Embassy or Consulate that
are found to be fraudulent you will be ineligible to participate
in the USUF Summer Work Travel Program and will not be refunded
any fees.
• You will bring a minimum of $1,000 USD cash or traveler's checks
because you may not receive your pay until at least 2 weeks after
you have begun working.
• You agree to leave the U.S. at the end of your stay or before
the program end date stated on your DS-2019 form and will not
attempt to return subsequently to the U.S. without complying with
U.S. visa requirements.
